About Lee

Born and raised in Reisterstown, MD, about 20 miles north of downtown Baltimore, Lee Braverman took an interest in music at a young age Lee.  He began playing piano for a few years until about age 8.  Once he picked up a bass at age 13, he found a whole new purpose in life.  Growing up around jam bands, he began to study the playing styles of Phil Lesh and Mike Gordon.  Later on, looking for more influences, he discovered some of the great modern bassists such as Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Stu Hamm, Jaco George Porter Jr., etc.  After awhile, Lee began to take an interest in Jazz music.  It is here that he found some of his favorite bass players, including Jaco Pastorius, Scott Lafaro, and Charles Mingus.

Lee attended Salisbury University in Maryland, and shortly after graduating in 2009 with a B.A. in music, moved to Austin, TX.  Since moving to Austin, Lee has been part of numerous projects in varying genres.  He has been a permanent member of DeadEye, a local Grateful Dead tribute band, since 2012.  Having studied Phil Lesh from a young age, as well as studying classical music in college, Lee has been the perfect choice for bassist for this group.  He has also started a funk and soul group, Honey Made.  High energy dance music with solid grooves in which Lee writes most of the material.  Keep an eye out for some new sounds in the upcoming year as Honey Made has just finished recording a new album produced by Los Lobos' Steve Berlin.  In addition to DeadEye and Honey Made, Lee also plays with Funk-O-Tron, a prog rock based funk group out of San Marcos, as well as his own jazz combo, the Lee Braverman Band.
